With only 3 weeks left in this marking period, I've been careful to be wrapping everything under my goal #1 completed. Among all of this, I've been working with Mrs. Caussey on The Price of Peace and as we finish it up, I plan to get the other two works done where mentors are concerned. I also have been working tirelessly on my work for sub-theme 3, A Link to the Vine, over Thanksgiving break. I'm only done with the Prologue and the first half of Chapter 1, but both are massive. I truly doubt the other 6-8 chapters will be anywhere near as long. Anyway, I've gotten a lot of work done and am confident that "The Price of Peace" "Same Ol' Story" "Extinguished" and "A Link to the Vine" will be 100% completed to the current me's standards within 16 days. I'm sure that it seems like a squeeze, but I'm rather comfortable with the amount of time I've given myself. As for Audubon's Last Lecture and The Ancients' Slumber, I've been lagging behind on my work for those pieces. The Audubon work is quite easy to work on as I was able to use far less complex writing since it's supposed to be from Audubon's perspective. However, The Ancients' Slumber is a daunting task despite it being so much fun to write. The issue I'm having is that, it's easily the longest thing in my portfolio as well as the most massive project I've ever worked on. In order to make a few changes, I have to read through most of what I've already written to make sure I don't miss anything that I might need to consider when making edits. The other issue is that I want to give my Swedish friends some input as they are running the server that corresponds to my work. While I have executive power as the chief writer for all story/lore, they play a crucial part in this process and ultimately if they really want something changed, I'll change it. This has proved rather exhausting as I only have a limited window of rime in which I can contact them since, well you know, THEY'RE LITERALLY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. Anyway, this heavily limits the extent to which we can collaborate and effectively/efficiently make progress. It matters little, I've given myself plenty of time to work on The Ancients' Slumber so I should be alright. Anyway things are going well overall. All goals for deadlines I set are well within reach so I'll be fine. What I need to plan for is in the near future with the holidays. I plan to use that time as effectively as possible to make extra headway. Hopefully, I can get ahead of schedule and have more time to focus on exams in the Spring. I have to say, God has been extremely generous in blessings towards this project. He's allowed me to do so much for which I am extremely grateful. His love truly is infinite, and his will comforting.
Unfortunately, this week has been very busy due to school (tests, projects, etc), but I have managed to do a few things. First of all, I have decided that while I'd really like to compose a madrigals style choral piece, it would ultimately take too much time to compose, and distract from my focus on the individual pieces that would make up the portfolio. As far as writing is concerned, I've been going over "The Ancients' Slumber" and shortening it as well as making it more effective and coherent as a whole. The issue I've run into with this piece is that it was originally written as a lore, something fictional yet expository. While it eventually became something of a novel (in my sales pitch I estimated it to be some 1200 pages, but after formatting and the editing I've done, I've brought it down to a more reasonable 700 pages), it still was written from a rather passive perspective that was quite the opposite of engaging. Thus, I talked to the Henningsson brothers and we all agreed to reduce line spacing (which was enlarged to help us organize our thoughts) and make the work more concise as a whole. So far I've only gotten to shortening the first 4 chapters, but I'm much happier with them at the moment, and I feel like the piece fits much better into the portfolio. I've also started editing the Audubon Last Lecture, something I've actually lengthened, though I need to find a way to believably make Audubon seem more depressed than he is. The goal is to transition his character from near suicidal to rather content with his life over the course of a single speech. This has proven difficult, as I don't want the speech to be more than approximately 90 minutes. Where mentors are concerned I've made little progress with the various professors I've been emailing, as they are quite busy and have not yet come around to sending a signed copy of the mentor contract. However, I've shared documents of "Extinguished," "The Price of Peace," and "Same Ol' Story" with all of them. Hopefully, I'll have those 3 pieces completely finished by Thanksgiving at the latest. In fact, that is the concrete deadline that I have set for myself. After those are completed, I'll move on to the last lecture, heavily editing a platonic dialogue done in English as well as further editing "The Ancients' Slumber" (this will probably be one of the last pieces officially completed). With today being the first day that this site has been dedicated to my 20% time project, my first blog post will, of course, be very bulky. To establish a starting point, here are all the things for my project that are already completed...
